Side by Side Prayer Guide: Day Five
By CRCC | February 23, 2006
Day 5 – Thursday, February 23
Prayer Focus: Becoming a Devoted People
Verse for the Day:
You must live in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ, as citizens of heaven. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing side by side, fighting together for the Good News. Philippians 1:27 (nlt)
What would change in your life if each new day this verse was lived out completely? What would change in your heart? Your family? Your community? Your church?
In this great call we’ve been given to follow Christ together we’ve received the highest honor and responsibility imaginable: representing Jesus to the world in which we live. For Side by Side to really happen—for God’s dream of transformation in our hearts and in the hearts of those who don’t yet understand how much he loves them to really happen—we must become fully devoted followers of Christ and we must, as the verse for today says, stand side by side in unity so that the Good News can be given full voice.
A Few Minutes in Prayer:
Five Minutes:
Revisit what God revealed to you yesterday about His call in your life and pair it with the call given in this verse. Talk to Him about this: tell Him your feelings about it; share your worries or hopes; discuss your struggles in this area with Him; ask for His help, if you desire it.
Four Minutes:
Continue your prayer time by praying for the unity of our church, asking that God would use Side by Side to draw us closer to Him and closer to one another. Ask that God would make you an essential part of creating that unity and harmony in our call as a church. Pray that God would work in our leaders, guiding them in the direction He desires and giving them the strength to follow.
One to Two Minutes:
If you can honestly do so, pray this verse for yourself: “Lord, I so desire to live my life every day in a manner worthy of the name I bear as a citizen of heaven. Lead me this day to be completely your person in this world so that through me today, you might show someone that there is Good News in Jesus Christ.”
